What is an International Driving Permit (IDP)?

An International Driver’s Permit (IDP) is a United Nations-sanctioned document that, along with your valid home driver licence, allows you to drive a motor vehicle in a foreign country legally. It is recognised in many countries and is often a requirement for renting vehicles in other countries. The IDP provides translations of your licence in multiple languages, enabling local authorities and rental companies to interpret your driving credentials easily.

To ensure full compliance with Bulgarian and European Union road laws, all customers must meet the following requirements before renting a vehicle from our company:

1. Valid Driving License

All renters must present a valid, original driving license issued by their home country. The license must be in Latin script (Roman alphabet) and valid throughout the rental period.

2. Passport or National ID Requirement

All customers must present a valid passport at the time of rental.

• Citizens of the European Union may alternatively present a valid national ID card.
• Non-EU citizens must provide a passport.
• Documents must be valid for the full duration of the rental period.

3. International Driving Permit (IDP) – Mandatory for Certain Countries

In accordance with Bulgarian legislation and EU road regulations, drivers from specific countries must carry an International Driving Permit (IDP) in addition to their national driving license. The IDP serves as an official translation and is legally required for driving within Bulgaria.

Without this permit, you are not legally allowed to operate a vehicle in Bulgaria and European Union, and we cannot proceed with the rental.

4. Countries Requiring IDP

If your driving license is issued in one of the following countries, you must present an International Driving Permit alongside your

 original license at the time of vehicle pickup:
