Ski-in Bulgaria Bulgaria has 3 major ski resorts: Bansko, Borovets, Pamporovo

Bansko

 Bansko is located 160 km south of Sofia, 60 km southeast of Blagoevgrad, 6 km south of Razlog, and about 50 km north of Gotse Delchev.Bansko is the best ski resort in Bulgaria with the longest ski runs and the richest cultural history.  The resort offers excellent ski and snowboard conditions and infrastructure. A lot of hotels of various standards and prices are available. The resort offers hundreds of bars and traditional restaurants called ‘mehana’.

Bansko is a resort that is developing with extremely fast temps.For extreme skiers Bansko ski zone offers the so-called fun – park zone.
A compliment for the skier is the 7 kilometers long lighted ski – road between Banderishka Polyana and the town. Some of the ski runs offer wonderful conditions for night skiing, which is available for everyone from 18.30 until 21.30.

Snowboarders

Snowboarders can enjoy the one and only on the Balkans “Fun Park”. It offers the option to ski over present artificial bumps and jumps as well as to build those on their own. Also, the half-pipe located by the place where Bansko’s famous snow towers are usually built offers both skiers and snowboarders an arena to boast their latest tricks.

This resort offers a great variety of ski runs that can satisfy everyone’s tastes and abilities. 100% of the ski runs are covered by snow cannons, which guarantee sufficient snow coverage from December to May. Difficulty scale distribution is as follows: 30%beginners, 45% advanced, and 35% expert.

Borovets

Borovets is easily accessible and is just 72 km away from Sofia. The resort is located just 12 km away from Samokov. Borovets is a modern ski resort located in the Rila mountain. The resort features luxury hotels, restaurants, bars, shops and a good choice of ski runs and lifts. Borovets is an Alpine type resort, providing very good conditions for snow sports during the winter: skiing, night-skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, ski jumps, and biathlon, etc. There are ski runs for beginners, intermediates and advanced skiers.

Lift information

Lift system:1 six-seat Gondola lift, 2 High-Speed Quad Chair lifts, 1 Fixed Grip Quad Chair lift 10 Surface ski lifts, few baby drag lifts. 19 ski runs with a total length of 58 km provide perfect skiing conditions for all tourists from the beginning of December until late April. All tracks are divided according to their level of difficulty and they can satisfy any skill level – beginners, intermediate or advanced skiers.

There are three ski centers in Borovets ski resort: Central Borovets ski center – starting from 1337 m altitude up to 1780 m. Yastrebetz ski center – from 1340 m up to 2369 m. Markudjik ski center – from 2340 m up to 2550 m. The cross country trails are 35 km long, designed according to the requirements of FIS (Federation Internationale de Ski), at a minimum width of 6 m. The resort also offers biathlon facilities for training and competitions. Ski jumping – available in Central Borovets ski center.  Night skiing on lighting is available opposite hotel Rila every day from 5 pm to 10 pm.

Pamporovo

Pamporovo ski resort is located in the heart of the Rhodopi mountain. It is the sunniest Bulgarian mountain resort. The ski slopes of Pamporovo are safe guarded and maintained in very good condition. The gentle profile of the mountain with its rounded slopes and summits makes Pamporovo suitable for beginners. But there are difficult ski runs like “The Wall” for the advanced skiers. Ski rentals are available near the ski runs and the lift stations, you can book ski equipment rental, ski school and lift pass with us, as well.

Lifts: 5 chair lifts, 9 drag lifts, with a total capacity of 8600 persons per hour
The total length of the ski runs: 25 km + 30 km slopes for ski run;
Longest run: 4,2 km

There are ski runs of all degrees of difficulty in Pamporovo. Most of the tracks start from the very peak. Also, there are three cross-country runs in the resort, with a total length of around 40 km.

Beginners

Beginners: Can start with the ski school of Pamporovo, which is quite famous with the quality tuition. Starting on the nursery slopes, after few days they will be able to ski on the higher ski runs.

Intermediate skiers

Intermediate skiers: The total length of ski runs that are suitable for Intermediates is approx. 20 km. These skiers can jump on the triple chairlift from the Malina station going to the top of the Snejanka peak. Or, a single chair lift goes to the middle station, from where the new four-person lift runs up to the peak.

Advanced skiers

Advanced skiers: Can jump on the drag lift from the middle station which runs up the side of “The Wall”. It is the most difficult ski run in the resort. The other difficult piste starts from the TV tower, after the last station of the triple chair, go right, pistes called Snejanka. The mountain rescue service works 24 hours a day, taking care of the security of the skiers. The ski-kindergarten is open from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm.

How to reach Bansko, Borovets, or Pamporovo?

If you choose to rent a car or book a transfer, your trip to Bansko usually takes around two hours. If the weather conditions are not so good- bad winter, make sure you have three hours and good winter tires and snow chains. When planning your trip, make sure you have enough time before the flight takes off. You need to be at the airport two hours before take-off.

By Bus

This will not be our recommendation. Buses on these directions are usually old and not very well maintained. It will take you much longer to get there. However, we can admit it will also be cheaper. Buses usually from the central bus station.  Address:
